NEWS FROM JGK MOTORSPORTS / ICEBREAKER V WEEKEND AT SELINSGROVE

BY JR KENNERUP
Selinsgrove, Pa.. The Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour Icebreaker V Weekend at the Selinsgrove Speedway is set for Friday March 16th and Saturday March 17th with a rain date of Sunday March 18th. Another star studded field of the top Modified drivers are expected once again for both days this year.
The big races that dot the racing calendar throughout the season always draw the best drivers around and qualifying into the feature event is tough. Ever since the Icebreaker was started, event Promoter Joe Kaminski, Jr. has tried to award guaranteed starting spots to other big races. Once again this year Kaminski has succeeded as currently he has four guaranteed starting spots that will be awarded to the feature winners during the weekend.
The biggest haul of guaranteed starting spots will happen on Saturday March 17th as the winner of the 40 lap feature for the RoC Modifieds will receive three guaranteed starting spots plus two pit passes for one of the races. The Friday March 16th feature winner is not forgotten as they will receive one guaranteed starting spot.
For the fifth consecutive year the Utica – Rome Speedway in Vernon, NY is offering a guaranteed starting spot to their two big races of the year, the Victoria 200 and the New Yorker 200 that both pay $10,000 to win. The Friday March 16th feature winner of the 358 Modified Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour race will receive the Victoria 200 spot, worth $400 cash. The Saturday March 17th feature winner of the RoC Modified Dirt Tour race will receive the New Yorker 200 spot also worth $400 cash.
The Victoria 200 takes place on Memorial Day in May while the New Yorker 200 takes place on the weekend after Labor Day in September.
“Once again I can’t say Thank You enough to Gene Cole, Barb Clark, John Tiff, and the entire Utica – Rome Speedway staff for this very generous sponsorship for the fifth year in a row, " said Kaminski of JGK Motorsports. “This cross promotion between Selinsgrove and Utica – Rome has been very successful and they’re good people to work with."
For the second consecutive year Brett Deyo Motorsports Media will be involved with the Icebreaker in a big way. Deyo who promotes special big racing events at the Penn – Can and Five Mile Point Speedways throughout the race season has offered up a huge prize to the Saturday March 17th feature winner.
The Saturday March 17th feature winner will receive courtesy of Brett Deyo Motorsports Media a guaranteed starting spot for the $10,000 to win 60 lap Clash at the Can that takes place at the Penn – Can Speedway in mid – June, worth $300 cash. Also going to the feature winner is a guaranteed starting spot for the 50 lap $5,000 to win Short Track Super Nationals that takes place on Saturday of Columbus Day Weekend at the Five Mile Point Speedway, worth $300 cash. Finally the feature winner will also receive two free pit passes to the Short Track Super Nationals, worth $100 cash.
“These guaranteed starting spots for the Clash at the Can and the Short Track Super Nationals are really important “ stated Kaminski. “ Last year there were 66 Mods at the Clash and 79 Mods at the Super Nationals. So getting a guaranteed starting spot is a big relief for the driver going into these two big races. The two free pit passes always helps the racers out, Thank You to Brett for his generous sponsorship. “
With the additional sponsorship announced today if a driver sweeps the weekend at Selinsgrove their win total currently sits at $10,800 cash. This amount will go up with additional sponsorship monies that will be announced shortly.
Anyone can become a sponsor of the Icebreaker V Weekend at Selinsgrove for as little as $50. Your sponsorship doesn’t have to go to the leader of a lap or the feature winner, as it can be awarded in any reasonable way you wish. For more information please call event promoter Joe Kaminski, Jr. at 570 – 274 – 0404.
