Binghamton, NY … One of the most anticipated racing events of the 2010 racing season is just about to happen. On Wednesday July 14th at the Grandview Speedway the first ever appearance of the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified & Sportsman Tour will take place. The show is being promoted by Bob Miller and Bruce Rogers of Thunder on the Hill Series. The Modified winners share has now been raised to $5,000 to win!
The high banked third mile oval in Bechtelsville, Pa. is just about the perfect setting for this show. The weekly racers who call Grandview home are some of the toughest competitors in the country and this was proved a few weeks ago when Craig Von Dohren won a big midweek show using a small block engine. Many of the weekly Grandview racers will be on hand to defend their home turf on this night.
Of course all of the stars and cars of the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour are expected to be in attendance. Defending and three time consecutive champion Pat Ward will lead the RoC troops in to battle. It is anticipated that fellow RoC racers Danny Johnson, Stewart Friesen, Bobby Varin, Gary Tomkins, and others will be on hand.
The RoC Modifieds will compete in a full show of heats, B Mains, and a 60 lap $5,000 to win feature that includes a $500 Dart Machinery Small Block Bonus. Adding a little spice to this evening of racing entertainment is the Five Mile Point / Grandview Bonus that is worth $500. That bonus money will go to the driver who has the best combined finishes from the 60th Anniversary Special that takes place at Five Mile Point on July 7th and this show. If one driver is able to win all three cash prizes they will leave with $6,000 in their pockets.
Joining the RoC Modifieds will be the RoC Sportsman. Several RoC Sportsman Tour regulars have raced already at Grandview this year in previous Thunder on the Hill Series events. Justin Holland has a win the last time out, Nick Petrilak has also raced at Grandview this year. They will be joined by many Sportsman racers who call Big Diamond, New Egypt, and Bridgeport home. The RoC Sportsman will compete in a full show of heats, B Mains, and a 40 lap $1,000 to win feature.
Gates open at five in the evening on Wednesday July 14th with hot laps at seven and racing at 7:30 in the evening.
