Binghamton, NY… The Selinsgrove Speedway is ready, the race teams and race fans are ready, and the anticipation is at an all time high for this weekends’ Insinger Performance Products RoC Icebreaker III Weekend. A Sprint Car test took to the track earlier this week and the surface was in stellar shape.
With all of the races that were scheduled to have already taken place in the Northeast being postponed by weather. The Selinsgrove Speedway will have the distinction of hosting the first Modified show of the year in the Northeast this Friday night starting at 7:30 p. m.
Gates for this Friday night will open at 5 p. m. with a drivers meeting slated to start at 6:40 in the evening with hot laps to follow. The first heat will go green at 7:30 p. m. sharp and a full show of heats, consi’s, and a 25 lap $2,200 to win feature for the 358 Modifieds will take place. Also on the card Friday night will be several hot lap sessions for the big block Modifieds that will be in competition on Saturday. The racing program is sanctioned by the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour which is also now part of the 2010 American Racer East Coast Modified Cup.
Selinsgrove Speedway and Race of Champions officials would like to note an error by a racing newspaper regarding the Friday night event advertisement. The Friday night show does pay a minimum of $2,200 to win, not $2,000 as it was advertised incorrectly.
The Saturday afternoon show will see all gates remaining open following the Friday night show so that all racing teams can unload their equipment without being rushed. The grounds of the Selinsgrove Speedway will be cleared at 1:30 Saturday afternoon and all gates will open one half hour later. A drivers meeting will be held at 3:10 with hot laps to follow and the first heat gets the green at 4 p. m. sharp. A complete show of heats, consi’s, Cash Dash, Non – Qualifiers Feature, and a 50 lap $4,000 minimum to win feature will take place for the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour. The 358 Sprints that compete weekly at Selinsgrove will be given several hot lapping sessions on Saturday also.
In case of inclement weather on either day Sunday March 21st has been reserved as a rain date with gates open at Noon and first heat at 2 p. m.
This past weekend at the Motorsports Expo Show an official entry for this weekend was received from “The Doctor” Danny Johnson. Danny will be driving the Mike Payne owned racing machines on both nights. Danny is the defending race winner as he won last years’ Insinger Performance Products RoC Icebreaker II 50 in the Mike Petruska owned car. Johnson joins a star studded field of the top Small Block and Big Block Modified drivers in all of racing.
Other entries received at the Motorsports Expo Show included Stewart Friesen the winner of the last RoC event held in November at Five Mile Point Speedway. Theresa, NY driver Lance Willix has entered the Saturday show as he will be making the nearly eight hour one way drive to compete at Selinsgrove from his home located near the U. S./ Canada border in northern New York State.
Racers are reminded that for each show they will need a raceceiver and a transponder. Any team not having a transponder will be able to rent one from the track on either day. A scanner can be used in place of a raceceiver for either show.
Sunoco Racing Gasoline and Sunoco Racing Methanol will be available both days at the track. BFP Specialties will be handling the American Racer Tires and Modified parts at the track both days.
