In just one two weeks the Selinsgrove Speedway will come alive with the sounds of racing engines as the Insinger Performance Products RoC Icebreaker III Weekend takes place at the Synder County half mile oval.
The Friday March 19th racing program that sees all gates opening at five in the evening will feature a full Race of Champions Dart Dirt 358 Modified Tour show along with hot lap sessions for the big block Modifieds that will compete the following afternoon. A drivers meeting is slated to start at 6:45 Friday evening followed by hot laps and the first green flag being waved at 7:30.
Admission prices for the Friday evening show are $17 for the grandstands and $25 for the pit area.
The Saturday afternoon March 20th show will see all gates opening at two in the afternoon with a drivers meeting being set for 3:15 with hot laps to follow and the first heat getting the green taking the green at 4 p. m. The Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour will run a full show including a Cash Dash and Non Qualifiers Feature.
Admission to the pit area on Saturday is $30 while grandstand admission is $20. However if you have a rain check from the Friday night show it will give you a $2 discount for the grandstands only on Saturday.
In case of inclement weather Sunday March 21st is the rain date with all gates opening at Noon, drivers meeting at 1:15, hot laps at 1:30 and the first heat at 2 p. m.
Despite the attempts of Mother Nature lately which has seen some significant amounts of snow being dropped in the northeast track promoter Charlie Paige and his staff are very confident that they will have the fastest half mile race track on the east coast ready to go by March 19th.
Race Coordinator Joe Kaminski commented on the condition of the facility, I took a drive to the track on Monday, (March 1st) and was amazed by the track that all of the snow was virtually gone. He added, Just twenty miles down the road there is still over six inches of snow on the ground but none at the speedway.
Race of Champions Tour Director Andrew Harpell remarked, In each of the previous two years we have been at the Motorsports Expo Show in Syracuse the week prior to this race and watched it snow in upstate New York. Despite that we have run both of these events mostly due to the hard work of Charlie Paige and his track crew at Selinsgrove . We are fully expecting to complete these races again in 2010, he added.
Once again this year to determine points for the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour, the same point tabulation will be used from last year. For drivers who compete in both shows their best feature finish will be their official points for this weekend. However if a driver only chooses to race in one show the finish from this show will be their points from this weekend.
The Selinsgrove Hotel located just one half mile north of the race track on Main Street in downtown Selinsgrove has been named the official RoC Icebreaker III Weekend Party Location. The Selinsgrove Hotel serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and boasts some of the best food in Synder County.
To show their appreciation to the racers attending the weekend the Selinsgrove Hotel will be giving all racing teams who participate during the weekend discount coupons for either Saturday breakfast or Saturday dinner.
