DATES ANNOUNCED FOR RoC ICEBREAKER III WEEKEND AT SELINSGROVE

12/02/09 - By JR KENNERUP

Binghamton, NY - For the third consecutive year the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour will open their season at the Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa. The dates for the 2010 edition of the RoC Icebreaker III Weekend are Friday March 19th and Saturday March 20th with Sunday March 21st being reserved as a rain date.

"This event has become a must see racing event for the early part of the racing season," said RoC Administrative Director Andrew Harpell.

"Year one was good, last year was even better, and I anticipate year three will be even better than the first two years. I know from talking to many racers and racing fans that they can’t wait for March 19th and 20th."

Joe Kaminski, Jr. of JGK Motorsports and Selinsgrove Speedway added.

"This is the first weekend of the racing year that has not one, but two must see racing events at the same track on two different days. The success of this show proves that the racers and race fans want a quickly paced one division racing program. That is why there will be no changes or additions to the racing program on either night this year."

For the second year in a row the Friday March 19th racing program will be for the Small Block (under 361 cu. in) Modifieds. Also on this evening the Big Block Modifieds will be receiving several hot lap sessions throughout the evening. The Small Blocks will run a full show featuring heat races, consolation races, and a 25 lap $2,200 to win feature. The defending race winner is Pat Ward who used the win to vault him to his third consecutive Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour Championship.

For the third consecutive year the Saturday March 20th racing program will feature a full show for the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour which includes heat races, consolations, and a 50 lap $4,000 to win feature event. The defending race winner is Danny Johnson who drove the Mike Petruska owned entry to the win after original race winner Ryan Godown came up light at the scales.

Once again Kaminski is heading up the sponsorship efforts for the entire weekend.

"I know that the economy is tough at this point in time. However I’m hoping that some new potential sponsors I have spoken to lately will be coming on board for the excellent weekend of racing."

Kaminski is trying some different avenues to generate new sponsorship dollars for the RoC Icebreaker III Weekend.

"With all of the outstanding support we’ve received in the first two years of this exciting weekend. The least I could do is try to find more sponsorship money for the racers on this weekend. I’ve talked to three chassis builders about doing a Chassis Challenge and if the sponsorship comes through we’ll have a Non-Qualifiers race for both shows."

Currently a few sponsors have signed on to sponsor the weekend.

The Country Hearth Inn (570-374-8880) for the third consecutive year will be the host hotel for the weekend. The Country Hearth Inn is offering a special weekend racers rate by mentioning to Inn General Manager Donna Mitchell that you are attending the RoC Icebreaker III Weekend at Selinsgrove.

Lenny Krautheim Auto Sales will be returning for the second year in a row with a third place finisher bonus for both shows. The third place finisher on Friday and Saturday night will receive a $150 cash bonus.

Jim Collier Paving & Excavating will be sponsoring the Long Haul Award for the third consecutive year. The driver on Saturday who has towed the furthest to compete will receive a $50 cash bonus.

Gary Wagner of the Middleburg IGA for the third consecutive year will be sponsoring the feature winner trophies and great tasting cakes for both shows.

JGK Motorsports will be sponsoring the Jack Bagley Memorial Contribution to Auto Racing Award on Saturday night for the second consecutive year. The winner of this highly respected award will receive $100 cash.

All non qualifiers on each night will receive tow money of $25 courtesy of the Selinsgrove Speedway for the third consecutive year.

Dart Machinery will present on Saturday for the third consecutive year a $500 cash bonus to the first Small Block Modified to cross the start finish line in the 50 lap feature.

Once again this year RoC points will be awarded for both shows and just like last year the best overall finish from both shows will count as the official point totals going toward the 2010 Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour Point Standings.
