BINGHAMTON, NY - Anticipation was very high heading into the King of the Can at the Penn – Can Speedway this Saturday. Heavy rain moved into the Susquehanna, Pa. area early Friday afternoon and lasted until late Saturday afternoon. All of the moisture left the grounds and race track looking like a mud bog and forced the postponement of the show to the early portions of the 2010 racing season.
With the postponement the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour season will end this upcoming Saturday night at the Five Mile Point Speedway with the 40th running of the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend as they run the Southern Tier 100.
This Saturday at Five Mile Point will see a Racers Flea Market taking place at 9 am in the morning in the upper parking lot of the facility. Pit gates open at two in the afternoon with grandstand gates opening one hour later and hot laps begin at 4:15 and the first heat gets the green at 5 p. m. sharp.
The Modified feature will be 100 laps in length and the winner will receive $5,555. There will be a fuel stop at the halfway point to accommodate the cars using racing methanol.
The Modified point battle saw a lead change after the last race at Accord with two time and defending champion Pat Ward now in the lead with 352. Brett Hearn is second with 331, Danny Johnson is third with 294, Stewart Friesen is fourth with 290 and Matt Sheppard is fifth with 232. Brian Weaver is sixth with 220, Mike Colsten is seventh with 194, Jerry Higbie, Jr. is eighth with 177, Billy Van Pelt is ninth with 155 and Joey Grammes is tenth with 128.
