Penn-Can To Host RoC Dart Dirt Tour 75 On Aug. 11

08/04/09 - SUSQUEHANNA, PA - Interest continues to run high for the Hot Summer Night Special at Penn Can Speedway Tuesday August 11th. The Race of Champions Tour will be making their first stop of the 2009 season at the three eighths mile Susquehanna County oval.

The ROC DART Modifieds will be in competition along with the ROC DART Sportsman, and the Trackside Products Pure Stocks. This great night of action is all sponsored by Don’s Automotive Mall of Binghamton. If past history is an indicator, fans will be in for a great night of short track racing featuring the area’s best driving talent.

This mid-week event annually brings together a great mix of drivers from all areas to compete against the best drivers Penn Can has to offer. After four tour races this season Brett Hearn of New Jersey has a nine point advantage over Pat Ward of New York. Sitting third in points is another New York driver, Matt Sheppard. Canadian Stewart Friesen is four followed by Dan Johnson and Brian Weaver of New York.

The Penn Can regulars will be the Pennsylvania representatives with 2008 point champion Jeff Rudalavage leading the way. Dan Vauter, Allan Rudalavage, Brett and Garth Tonkin, and Butch Tittle will all be in the hunt for the $4250 winner’s share of the purse. Southern Pennsylvania will also be well represented with the likes of Jeff Strunk, Rick Laubach, Mike Gular, Daune Howard, and Billy Pauch Jr all expressing interest in competing in this event.

The winner of this event will also get a guaranteed starting position in the October 10th Supernationals at Five Mile Point Speedway. Included in the racing will be a non qualifiers race giving the competitors one more last chance to make the starting field. This race will be sponsored by the Motorsports Expo and Trade Show at the Syracuse Fairgrounds in March of 2010. This race has all the makings to be an All-Star show.

The ROC Sportsman Tour will also be bringing a very talented group of competitors to Penn Can. New York’s Justin Holland presently sits on top of the point standings after three races. He is followed closely by Penn Can regulars Nick Petrilak and Jeff Crambo. Other drivers in the top ten expected include Mike Nagel Jr, John Scaborough of Vermont, Kyle Weiss, Jamie Batzel, Jeff Leslie, Brian Decker, and Joey Colsten.

The full bodied Trackside Products Tour Pure Stocks will round out a great night of racing. After four tour events Rich Talada is the point leader followed by Rich Green, Charlie Gilbert, Darl Ellis, and Gene Sharpsteen. Gilbert and Sharpsteen are past Penn Can Speedway Champions. Gilbert won his championship in the pure stocks, while Sharpsteen was a late model champion at the speedway. Other Penn Can champions that will be competing in the Trackside Tour event include Ken Sparks Jr and Butch Green.

The speedway is located on Route 171 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania just a short drive from the Binghamton and Scranton areas. Gates open at 5:00 with racing at 7:15. For more information call the speedway office at 570-585-9928 or check us out on the web at www.penncan.com.
