Salute To Bill Wimble At July 22 Utica RoC Race |

BINGHAMTON, NY - This Wednesday night July 22nd the Utica-Rome Speedway plays host to their second Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour event of the year. This night will feature a 50 lap $5,000 to win feature event with the entire program be run as a salute to Modified driving legend Bill Wimble.
Bill Wimble will be on hand to sign autographs of his new book that will be released on this evening. Bill will also be recognized during the evening of all his racing accomplishments and I’m sure some good Bill Wimble stories will be exchanged too.
On the track the racing action will be hot and heavy as the fast half mile oval prepared by Roger Heroux brings out the best in the competition on this night. Earlier this year Gary Tomkins won the Victoria 200 driving the Mike Payne owned car.
Coming into this event a change for the first time in over two years has taken place in the point standings. With his solid second place finish at the last RoC event Brett Hearn has vaulted into the point lead with 161 points. Defending two time RoC champion Pat Ward who has held the point lead for over two years consecutively now sits in second place just 11 points behind Hearn. Danny Johnson who has won two of the four RoC races this year is tied with Ward for second.
Matt Sheppard is fourth in the points with 134 points and Stewart Friesen is fifth in points with 111 points. Brian Weaver is sixth with 101, Billy Van Pelt is seventh with 89, Michael Storms is eighth with 84, Jeff Strunk is ninth with 83, and Joey Grammes is tenth with 82.
Billy Decker and Gary Tomkins are tied for 11th with 75, Larry Wight is 13th with 67, Bobby Trapper is 14th with 66, and Rick Laubach is 15th with 63 points.
A majority of the top 15 in points are expected to be in attendance on this night along with many of the tough weekly Utica-Rome Speedway racers like Bobby Varin, Todd Burley, Paul Jensen, Ronnie Johnson, Ted Lamb, Jr., and many more. Plus with big money on the line for a short distance you’ll never know who will invade the fast Vernon, NY on this night.
On Wednesday July 22nd all gates open at four in the afternoon with hot laps at six and the first heat hits the track at seven o’clock sharp.
