06/15/09 -
KIRKWOOD, NY…The fan favorite time of year is quickly approaching where the mid-week blockbuster events begin to pop up. This Tuesday, June 23rd Five Mile Point Speedway will host the Race of Champions Dart Sportsman and Pure Stock Tours along with the Colossal Cat Challenge race number 1. Race time is 7:30 p.m.
For the Race of Champions Dart Dirt Sportsman teams this will mark the second race of the 2009 tour. Thirty-nine of the top Sportsman teams converged on the Utica-Rome Speedway back on Sunday, June 6th for what shaped up to be a stellar event. Utica-Rome Speedway regular Jeff Leslie had a strong outing picking up his first ever RoC Dart Dirt victory. The Utica Rome contingent has been tough to beat on the RoC Tour in the past as their former tour champions include Steve Way and Brad Alger.
The Five Mile Point Speedway Sportsman ranks have really been competitive in 2009. There have been seven different feature winners in eight races thus far this season. Justin Holland won this event last season at the quarter mile and had a solid runner-up finish at the recent Utica Rome event. The competition should be fierce for this mid-week special event.
The Trackside Products Race of Champions Dart Dirt Pure Stock Trail has also been off to a great start in 2009. This Tuesday’s event will be the fourth of 2009 and the action has been tremendous. Rich Green leads the point chase over Rich Talada, Charlie Gilbert, Mike Codington and Earl Zimmer. There have been three different feature winners in the previous three events. The Five Mile Point Speedway weekly Pure Stock field is one of the toughest around and the weekly stars will certainly be looking to put themselves in to victory lane.
The first of three Colossal Cat Challenge races will also be on the card this Tuesday night. The winner of this first race will earn a guaranteed starting spot in the November 7th $10,000 to win event at Black Rock Speedway.
The winner of this first event will earn the 10th starting spot in that huge event in the fall at Black Rock. As another bonus if a driver can sweep all three Five Mile Point Speedway Colossal Cat Challenge events the will earn a $500 bonus. Any driver that competes in all three races and wins at least one event will be awarded a $100 bonus at the conclusion of the three race series.
All of the excitement will get underway at 7:30 p.m. this Tuesday, June 23rd at Five Mile Point Speedway. For additional information please phone the speedway offices at 607-775-5555 or log on to www.fivemilepointspeedway.net.
