07/10/08 -
Binghamton, NY… First after having a two month break between its first two highly successful shows this year.
The Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour after racing back on July 8th at the Five Mile Point Speedway comes right back with another big midweek show.
The Utica-Rome Speedway is presenting the Richie Evans Remembered 61 on Wednesday night July 23rd. The Modifieds will be going 61 laps for $6,161.61 to win; included in the racing program will be the Pro Stock division.
This will be the second big money RoC Dart Tour show at Gene Cole’s fine facility. Back on Mother’s Day Danny Johnson scored a $10,000 check by winning the Victoria 200 over local favorite Pat Ward and his teammate Billy Decker.
Also taking place on this evening will be many racing stories and memories of the greatest asphalt Modified driver of all time in Richie Evans who started his racing at Utica-Rome first in drag cars and then switching to racing on the old third mile asphalt oval in 1965. Currently all members of Richie’s immediate family are planning on attending and of course the hard working Utica-Rome management will have a few surprises up their sleeve on this special night of racing.
So far this year on the RoC Dart Tour defending champion Pat Ward has had his own way in defending his crown. In each of the three races so far Pat has earned five bonus points for winning a heat and has finished in the top five in each of the three events. Selinsgrove winner Rick Laubach still rides in second in the points with Stewart Friesen in third, Billy Decker in fourth and Utica Rome Victoria 200 winner Danny Johnson in fifth.
Gate times on July 23rd sees all gates opening at five in the evening, hot laps will take place at 6:25 and the first heat hits the racing surface at 7 p. m.
