Selinsgrove RoC Race Set For This Weekend

03/09/08 - SELINSGROVE, PA - Since the Insinger Race Fuels Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour Icebreaker 50 was announced last November, the racing community has been waiting patiently for it.
Now, it’s time to see who the best is in the opening race of the 2008 Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour.
This week more sponsors were added to the show and after all of the money and contingencies were added up. An unbelievable amount is available for one lucky driver if they sweep the racing program along with capturing a majority of the special awards.
It is entirely possible that one driver can walk out of Selinsgrove this Saturday night with $7,200 in cash and contingency awards.
"Everyone that has called me or has spoken to me in person is really looking forward to the show," stated RoC administrative director Andrew Harpell. “I’m really looking forward to it, too; it is going to be quite an event for sure. "
If the 50-lap feature winner on Saturday doesn’t claim any of the special awards they will still receive $5,400. As the base cash purse for the feature is $4,000 also the feature winner is receiving a $1,400 discount toward a complete trailer wrap from NHRA racer Max Naylor of Reaction Graffix in New Buffalo, Pa.
Heat races on Saturday are paying $100 to win with Shiley Fabrication and Zemco Headers each putting up a $50 gift certificate. All heat race winners will then compete in a three-lap Middleswarth Potato Chips Cash Dash where the winner collects $300 cash.
Corky’s Fourth Street Station in Tower City, Pa., is sponsoring the B-Mains. Each B-Main winner will receive $50 cash from owner Ed Harder.
The driver who has the worst luck on the day won’t go home empty handed. Art Bair Racing Wheels is sponsoring the Hard Luck Award and the winner will receive a racing wheel valued at approximately $200.
In the A-Main, the driver who advances the most positions from his starting spot to the finishing spot will receive the Hard Charger Award. Litech Race Systems will present this driver $200 cash.
Paul Stine Chevrolet is sponsoring a $100 cash award to the highest-finishing Chevrolet small block in the A-Main.
Selinsgrove Ford is sponsoring a $100 cash award to the highest-finishing Ford powered Modified in the A-Main.
RoC Tour major sponsor Dart Machinery is sponsoring the $500 cash Small-Block Bonus Award. This award will go to the highest finishing small-block in the A-Main.
Weikel Racewear is sponsoring the Early Entry Bonus Award. This award is a $250 gift certificate toward a t-shirt order from Weikel Racewear to one of the pre-registered drivers.
Jim Collier Paving & Excavating is sponsoring the Long Haul Award. The $50 cash award will go to the driver who has towed the furthest from his hometown to get to Selinsgrove to race.
Penn-Can (Pa.) Speedway, Accord (N.Y.) Speedway, Big Diamond (Pa.) Raceway and the T3 All-Star Series have all posted a $100 cash award respectively for their racers who are supporting the show. The first regular racer across the finish line in the A-Main from Penn-Can, Accord and Big Diamond will receive the money. While the money from T3 will go to the Series regular who competed in at least six races in 2007 that crosses the finish line first in the A-Main.
Added within this past week is the Best Appearing Car Award. Foss Jewelers is sponsoring $100 cash to the car that is voted Best Appearing at the race this Saturday.
Also added within the past week is the Penske Racing Shocks Awards. The top finishers using Penske Racing Shocks in the A-Main will receive a gift certificate from Penske representative Dave Reedy. Penske has also donated hats and t-shirts that will be used as door prizes on Saturday.
The feature winner on Saturday will receive a custom made cake from Middleburg IGA, who will also provide the 55-inch-tall trophy that the feature winner will receive.
"I know from speaking with many racing teams they are excited about all of the special awards that is being handed out," said Harpell."It’s highly unlikely that one driver will win all of the special awards, but it could happen. Plenty of credit needs to go to Joe Kaminski (Selinsgrove race director) who has really worked hard at getting all of the sponsors for the event."
"With the price of gasoline and diesel a decision on racing will be made early enough on Friday so no unnecessary travel is taking place," said Kaminski. “The racing surface is all set to go as the only thing that could hinder this great weekend of racing is the weather."
The weekend schedule is as follows. On Friday night gates open at 5:30 p.m., with a full 410 Sprint Car program taking place along with hot lap sessions for the RoC Dart Modifieds. On Saturday pit gates open at noon with grandstand gates opening one hour later. A drivers meeting will be conducted at 3 p.m. with hot laps to follow. Heat races will be green-flagged at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon; the Selinsgrove Pro Stocks will be on the card with the RoC Dart Modifieds. In case of inclement weather Sunday will be used as a rain date with all times being moved up two hours.
Daily admission for both shows on the weekend is Adults $15, Students between the ages of 12 and 17 are $12 and kids under 12 are free. If you attend the races on both nights there will be a discount admission price on Saturday.
By showing a Friday grandstand rain check on Saturday fans will receive a $3 discount when entering the grandstand. For the pit area there will be a $5 discount when you show up on Saturday with a Friday night pit wrist band still attached to your arm. A reminder that for the pits the wrist band must still be attached and Selinsgrove officials will remove it on Saturday.
RoC Dart Dirt Modified drivers are reminded that they must use racing gloves at all times while on the race track. Also RACEceiver and transponders are mandatory; the track will be renting out both if any team needs to rent one.
